I believe the Home 19 signified the actual building number and what it was used for. There were numerious buildings at this site and there still are. Most of them are used by the college. Hope that answered your question.

I am wondering where home 19, Pilgrim State Hospital is. What is it....it is where my grandfather lived when he passed away. Does anybody know what Home 19 means? Thanks.

My great grandma worked there as a nurse. Nothing ever happened, just chinese whispers in regards to all the stories. Then i found out, she was hiding the truth so we wouldnt go there. Supposibly only 2 people that went in became a patient. They wereordinary people loving life. They say it was all in the mind. Another true fact: A young chick killed herself with her own bed sheets, this is probably a coincedance but in a past msg, someone heard a girl scream.. Who knows.. many more stories. Unfortunetly my g/ grandma past away but she had fear in her eyes everytime we mentioned the place...

I work at Pilgrim and tours are not allowed just as you would not ask to tour any other operating hospital unless you planned on being a patient. If the campus was closed then I could understand giving tours. But giving tours while populated is degrading to the patients. They are here to be cared for and hopefully get better and are not a tourist attraction.

Samina,
Yes, shock treatment is still performed here as it is in almost every other mental hospital and ward in this country. It is not done as it was in the early days. Patients are unconscious when it is performed and they wake up with no memory of the treatment. They are placed on a cardiac monitor and given oxygen, along with an IV during the treatment. There is always a doctor and at least 2 nurses present to care for the patient. Who is your mother's healthcare proxy? Is it you or is she a ward of the state? The only way it can be performed against her will is if her healthcare proxy allows it or the court mandates it.

Love the pictures. So many memories. I graduated in 1976 and lived in Home 69. Driving through there now is so sad. Pilgrim nurses are the best nurses
You Sir Motts, and your site are simply the best. Very addictive-I have been limiting myself to one gallery per night. The before and afters take it to yet another level. And Lynne is a great addition to your community here. Thanks to you and her both as well as others who offer authentic history and technical information.
