wow.
very depressing.

maybe im looking too deep into it, but it kind of makes me feel what the patients felt.

like they were locked inside a room with no handle.

really sad...

this is so disturbing that i dont even want to look at it anymore.

claustraphobia and vertigo are key elements in this room.

in my house we have skelton locks, and when you take the lock plate off all you ca see is the wood of the door, the lock mechanism is completly incased in a metal case that is then incased within the door. As foe how would you open it, I would guess that you would leave the key in and pull.

a time out room is only al temporary place to put a resident, usually used because the resodent is being violent tward others. Nobody was expected to live in one of these rooms, just to calm down.

I rather think that the record player pictured was called the non-sync.I the cinema this type of unit was used to play 78 r.p.m. records during the interval etc.The music played was not in sync with the film being shown, the film sound would,on this installation,be printed on the film in the form of an optical soundtrack.
I just want you guys to know this site is absolutly amazing. I am currently writing a book that takes place at a mental hospital and your photos really help me get into the wolrd of hospitals and such. Thanks a bunch =D

Motts, it isn't fair to include pictures like this. Now we all want to know what is on the otherside of the door and no body can tell us.

In Alabama we are still at only around $3.45 per pack. I want to open a place that requires that you be a smoker to come in. Make a private club for smokers only. Your pass to get in would be that you smoke in front of the doorman/woman or you can't enter (keeps out fakers)

I'm with CrazyGuy... I hope the connecting room has a doorway leading to the outside. I also hope they get to this point before the smoke / fire is too bad considering the sign appears to be made of wood and has no lighting source.

I believe the answer to the "how do you open it question would logically be that the doors are weighted or hung a certain way as to alow it to swing easily once unlocked or that since a skeleton key was used mabey a slight pull would do the trick. I find it interesting that the lock cover has 6 flathead screws in it and if removed the inner workings of the lock would be exposed.

I thought Mott said they brought people here from England because they were being mistreated. Wouldn't being put in this tiny little room be cruel and unusual punishment. In the US our prisoners have rooms bigger than this.
