My mother worked here for 14 years, leaving in 1989. She said the amount of suffering was unreal. Women were placed here for having a baby out of wed-lock, getting pregnant at a young age etc. and many patients were born here and died here. I live in Denbigh myself, and she's warned me never to go inside as there are stories of patients going back to the site and actually living there. It was a major source of employment for Denbigh during the time it was open, leading many people to think 'it was a wonderful place.' But some say otherwise, there have been many stories (and still are) about patients killing themselves and each other, escaping and hurting members of staff etc. and also, people escaping and commiting suicide off of the Castle walls.
