Classic. Timeless!
Could be 150 yrs. or 1050 yrs. Thank you for this picture. Love it!
So Cool!!! Only in USA and NY; a ruin of a hospital just sitting there on the island.
May you always be well is my wish.
Unfortunately this isn't always the case; many buildings listed under the National Register have been razed. The designation does not guarantee protection of the property, and many historic buildings listed on this website have been torn down for shopping malls, condos, etc.
When a building is listed as a historic place, no one's allowed to tear it down, and attempts of some kind have to be made to keep at least it's facade standing. These supports seem to be all they could have done or all tht made sense to do by the time the place finally made it onto the Nat'l. Register. There's also always funds to consider, and those plus interest in the place usually equal how much or how little will be done to save/restore a location.
LIke I've said I really appreciate the occasional shot of a person or surrounding modernity like this; adds so much to the commentary, the life, of this work. Like a perfect, silent framework to the history. Well done!!
THANK YOU i have enjoyed this more than i can say. i love looking at old long ago abandoned buildings. the only thing better than your wonderful pictures would be to have been there. i started out watching a documentary on ellis island hospital this afternoon, looked up typhoid mary and hours later ended up here. so thank you for what i thought was going to be a boring night at work. Bring Um ON!!!!!!
Motts I have to tell you I have been on Opacity for a little over a month now and not even looked at most of your work because I become mesmerized by your talented pictorial essence in photography. I found you quite by accident on U-Tube looking at the abandoned Undercliff in the town I grew up in.... I have developed a new found appreciation for your work, for architecture in the world and I owe you a great deal of appreciation for opening an amazing world to my eyes.... please PLEASE keep up your wonderfully talented work....if ever I sell my writing and become rich I want some of your photographs to grace the walls of my home!!!!!
