I wonder if this place is the one featured in GTA 4, there is an abandoned hospital in the game, that this place looks like. Could be the case?

Very special castle-like hospital building and a very special place the Roosevelt Island.
Shows up well on Google Earth, and there is a time-line to follow the progress. (And lots of pictures, of path of trees and whatnot - but yours are the best as they have more soul.)
This is good for the venerable grave solemn shell still remaining.

And it did not rust and disintegrate - they knew how to build, weld, and paint back in the days.
