MIke, I think you're right about the baseboards. The wheels of the gurney would hit them and keep the sides of the bed and potentially the patient from hitting the walls.

Now that's quite a door.
I think the back side, the one pointing to the left came unhinged and swung out. So when it was "closed" they were essentially pointing the same direction.
