The neglect of an instrument that once was so majestic and beautiful truly makes me want to cry. But, in a sense, it is still performing a task for which it was designed - eliciting emotion.

I was thinking that we'd find such a resting place for Howard Hughes in Houston.....but, no........just a well manicured plot with about 7 columns.
Would love to visit this place one day. Thanks for the tour.

I assume that 'The Phantom' wasn't in hiding when you got there.

If I remember correctly there were some British folks who paid a steep price for opening a 'casket' in Egypt.....I think that 'Tut' boy got even for having his tomb disturbed.
But, these pictures are great......enjoyed the tour.....would've loved to have been with you during the find.

Wvo knew a cemetary here in the U.S. could be so interestng and so beautiful!? Thanks for more fabulous photos, Motts!
I'm thinking along the lines of Chris Lewis...sort of. I think the boulder was put there to keep the doors from closing repeatedly from a draft. However, I think the problem they were having with the doors closing was they kept LOCKING themselves together everytime they got slammed shut by a draft. Then someone would have to keep going to the trouble of hunting down the keys. Or thé keys could havé accidentally kept getting locked in behind the doors! Someone may havé tired of the hassle of the doors repeatedly accidentallyy getting locked, and decided to put that boulder between the doors to prevent a draft from ever closing and locking thé doors ever again! How's that for a wordy explanation!?
I totally agree with Lynne. This place must have been astounding at one time! It's really a crying shame that a building of such historical significance, and former beauty, would be allowed to deteriorate almost to the point of no return! (Sob! Sniff!)
Uh...umm...Welcoming!? Let me think about that for a minute........Okay! Maybe so!...But, I'm NOT going in ALONE! :D
Golly! Your artistic eyes don't miss a thing, do they Motts!?
I hate it when people cut the hands off of statues. Especially such a lovely one as this. : ( Thanks for sharing her somber beauty with us Motts!
