It just came over the local news that Dixmont is on fire right now. Fire crews have just been called out.

Coplan, your folks should tell us about some of their more "memorable" experiences working at PSH.

Very cool Picture. I've only seen the outside of the buildings. I was able to sign up for the tours a couple of times but they obviously don't let you inside. I'm curious which part (wing) of the building this picture was taken. I probably have pictures of it from the outside.
Erm, I hate to burst your bubble, Scott, but those aren't Sumac Trees, they're Locust or Honey Locusst trees. I must agree with you, however, they are nothing but weeds that grow where nothing else will. And they stink, too
Well, After awhile, they do sorta get etched in, I believe. So, No I don't find it odd. I do find it cool, though.

Rich, do you know of a different source for that video, I can't get the silly NBC feedroom to work whatsoever

When the heating and ventilation systems get shut off and water gets inside the tile edges start to curl. Winter freeze/thaw cycles then 'pull' the tiles right off glue that adheres them to the floor.

Boy, compare this to http://www.opacity.us/image3051_sinking.htm and you get an idea as to what these hallways should look like.

I wonder what the exterior shot of this same location looks like? There is an incredible amount of structural stress and deformation occurring. If the winter snows are heavy enough this winter it would not surprise me to see this section give out.

Had this pic on my desktop. My dad recognized the building and became obsessed with your site. He and my mother used to work there - met there in fact. He was an OT. Shared a lot of stories...but he is very nostalgic of your pictures and almost cried when he saw how bad a lot of the buildings were.

This photo was driving me crazy. After an hour of looking through my book I discovered why. This tree reminds me of the tree in Matthew Brady's The Lone Grave

Must have been a slow collapse, the windows on the lower most floor still have their curtains.

My brother and I took some really straight laced girls to the Late Show ( it always played after midnight), they must have thought we were crazy, we never heard from them again, great movie though

Our local hospital has one of those rooms for doctors to meet, nurses to catch up on their hours, etc. They call it a theater.
