Taunton! So wonderful You choosing this place for The First Book! It is very special indeed and am much in love with a lot here. Now gone - Your beautiful pictures remain. Important work You have done. It is very nice to have the Book!
No worries Mary, if you'd like a print just let me know. Central Islip State Hospital was a huge facility, especially back in the 1960s before they started tearing buildings down. Thank you for posting your memories of CI!
Hello, Yes, I'm guilty! I tried to right click and save this picture. My Grandmother's sister sadly spent over 50 years of her life at Central Islip and maybe one other facility before taking up residence there. I remember going to CI with my mother and grandmother to visit the woman I knew and remember as "Babe". It was in the mid-late 1960's we visited with her. I remember a visiting room but can't seem to locate that in any of your pictures. My Grand Aunt passed away before Central Islip closed in 1996. Sadly, if she were alive today--she would have received medication for what is more commonly known today as depression and would not have spent almost her entire life in mental institutions. Thank you for the history and pictures, and sorry for right clicking!
Is a DREAM - Taunton - in a perfect Book - Thank You so much - such a special place. State of the art protected is fair enough - NOW with pictures to study closely - ever to enjoy is such a good Event. May the road ris to meet You with more books. Is very important You tell about all this. Buy The Book says I!
I remember sneaking in to this place. It was an unforgettable time when we were 14 years old. We started to explore the plant by starting from the bottom of the furnace and all the way to the top of the furnaces. Its a shame they destroyed parts of the steel plant. Towards the evening we would hop on the train back to the east side of Allentown.
So happy am about The Book and that Northampton is chosen in it, as there are so MANY pictures of this place in The Galleries here, and it was so much fun to come here again. May roads rise to meet You continuing this important mission with many more books. Glad surely picked the right guy Mr. Motts ;)
Back in the day (late 60s-early 70s), I played some youth basketball tourney games at York Hall. The old red velvet colored window curtains and balcony theatre seats with dark wood and dim lighting gave it a strange eerie feeling when practicing there during winter nights with not many people around. I remember the drive to York Hall through the hospital grounds at night with the old street lights was a little spooky too.
I have been following your sight forever. Thank you for this book!!! I too remember us only knowing you as Motts. Can't wait for all of them. Congrats!
