All drains must have a "trap" that holds water so sewer gases don't come back up the drain. These gases (methane) are not only poisonous but flamable. In this case they either couldn't or didn't install one in the concrete when it was poured, so they had to use this setup.

Just incredible photography.

Great work.
somebody needs to call the historical society and get funding to fix up this wonderful looking piece of history and turn it into a muesum

I love the style of this photo. Of the rust of the basketball hoop and the bright green of the leaves and the red of the brick. Very Nice! : )
Rocky Point Park was the second oldest amusement park in America. It is a damn shame they let it go. Basically the park was a victim of bad management. They ran her into the ground. This park was th bomb for over 100 years. The last five or six years the park started to die and the last owners let it go. Poor management and a lack of pride. I think they were planning on selling the land to developers for big bucks.

Rocky point Park first opened in 1847, she was the pride of Rhode Island back in the day. A sad loss for Rhode islanders...
NOPE.... They are going to build Condos... Boring, over priced Condos...

mmmm. did they go on holidays?

I would imagine quite a few of them went out for fun and adventure. These places weren't prison y'know. If some one was willing to take a patient out, or a group they could go.

This photo gallery reminds me of some remote back ward, quiet and seemingly forgotten.

This is another one of my favorite themes on this site: plantlife invading building interiors. And this photo is a beautiful example of that.

Very beautiful and strange- I think they're daisies... or chamomile blossoms. The peeling paint near the bottom looks like sliced hardboiled eggs.
