The studs on the turbine casings actually held insulation in place. It was probley asbestos and removed. Great pictures, keep up the good work!

Kind of sad really. Like some part of the building is just waiting for the whistle to blow and for work to start tomorrow. Like those ghosts you hear about who don't know they're dead.

Contrary to all of the guessing, This is an old long stroke air compressor. The previous picture is a very old industrial, electric motor. it powered the old fella.
The large fly wheel turned slowly at around 180 rpms. We still support parts for these old dogs that are in the bottom of mining operations and are too costly to dismantle, remove and bring down a new one in parts and put together. This model was produced from 1905-1950's

Navi, I agree. Pastels drive me crazy, they are annoyingly colorless to me. I enjoy bold colors. I don't think that these doors where painted but stained this color. This has preserved them beautifully!

I have noticed a few brief off colored comments about Lynne popping up. The whole idea here is to share what you know and what you think. If you have something to say about the subject then do so. Slight, sarcastic remarks do not add to the discussion. Lynne does an excellent job of researching questions that people have asked, presenting facts about items/issues, and adding to the atmosphere in general. I personally am grateful for her researching skills and knowledge. She has a lot of experience in many of the things discussed here. I have learned a lot on this website. I have had mentally ill relatives in the past that dealt with many of the issues presented here and am grateful that there are so many visitors here who have shed some light on what used to be kept so silent.

Did you even look at the wonderful pictures that are presented here? It doesn't seem that you have even given them a second thought.

I highly doubt the people who can *afford* to live in those condos would give a damn about what the place used to be or the history there. Just how much they can brag about their spacious bathrooms and tennis courts.

And quite frankly, I'd consider it a mark of pride to be arrested for something like that.

Really, though...I'm very sensitive to colours and while red is an energizing kind of colour, this shade is extremely mild. I like it.

yes ive been in here its great but weird things do happen one mineut u walk into a room and its real cold then the next its real hot. but a great place to visit.

its not so nice when its pitch black in the building and ur only using ur cell phone light to walk around the rooms and the tunnals they have its not what u think its worse why dont u guys go and spend the night there and then tell me what u think about the whole hospital and walk into every room and every building they have and hear mad things moving and making noises. but u have to be quite cuz then the ghost wont come out for u to see them.

The fresh air did them no harm. It was the time in the sun that did them the most good. Sunlight helps with vitamin D production ,and stimulates bone repair. TB attacks the bones as well in some cases. Plus the fresh air encourage the people to breathe deeply and expand thier lungs.
