There is still one of these sites in operation in Latrobe, PA. I think its called Fairyland Forest. It mixes statues with live actors to tell the tales.

actually, my friends of inferior mind power, those alcoves are used to keep the devil away. in each alcove lives a group of below average sized SAS men and some evn smaller navy seals chaps who are trained to make really annoying noises at the devil if he appears in the dead of night.... well no, actually, thats a lie. sorry about the ranting...
