Thanks for the memories; I've seen photos of the theater, and it was indeed a gorgeous place.

The overhead tram sounds very unique, I've never heard of one being used at a hospital before. I now see a "tramway" mentioned in the National Register Report, but there aren't any details there... was it like a gondola for skiers? Very curious...
I remember these halls and the locked doors unable to get out....was put here age 19 for trying to commit suicide....and the thorazine....always the thorazine! I ran away one day when they walked me across the yard for therapy...….escaped! It was hell there. 1968

Tunnels attached all the buildings as well as over head trams
I was a nursing supervisor there for years.
Incredible eerie place.
I was a head nurse then a nursing supervisor at VH for many years and always admired the beautiful old majestic buildings.
I had several opportunities to explore the abandoned buildings and only have the visions in my head. There was so much besides the buildings left behind. Lives, possessions and the unspoken or written. So sad but very eerie especially at night when I traveled from building to building, Always avoided going in the tunnels that attached all the buildings. There was also an over head tram for taking patients from building to building. The old stage theatre was gorgeous. There were many elegant buildings. Wish I had photos of all I saw that is now gone.

I saw this and thought of the Phantom of the Opera when the chandelier falls. I haven't been on in quite some time and was glad to see that there were so many more pictures added in my absence.
