I think the railing is more of a decorative accent rather than a functional balcony if my memory servers me correctly...

This stair doesn't look quite so ornate. Must have been the staff stairs.

The grafatti alone would be a great shot.
The lonely chair alone woud be great.
But the combination is just to much for words.

I am also an artist and the lighting would be ideal for a studio, I would eat that up! :) It's bright enough to let you see what you are doing without being overpowering.
Other than the possibility of tormented souls in the building, one of these older places would be awesome to make into an artist colony.

A padded room? Not for me... I don't seek anything out in particular, although some pretty neat things have been left in some psych hospitals (straitjackets, ECT machines, brains and organs, etc).
