The bay was so high, and heat loss was so great. Plastic sheets were hung to trap the heat closer to the floor.

This is another draw press. It is also called a toggle press. This press was in the pressroom at the south end of the building. This line of presses was called " G Line ". G1A was the number one draw, and the first press on G Line.

About the guy who asked someone for a cig...depending on where you were it might not be a "bum", I've lived in Glenn Dale for 22 years, there's a guy who lives on or near Elm Street (right by the hospital) who askes EVERYONE, even cars driving by for cigs, but he's no bum. I don't know how this pic looks scarry to people when its daylight out?

The hoses were used to spray drawing compound on the sheets of steel before being put into the press. Compressed air was thespraying force.

I worked at South Bend Stamping as a die maker from 73 to 99, and spent many hours working on dies in those presses. Most draw press operations required four operators.

I wonder why they decided to go NeoClassical on this building. It seems like a common theme for asylums.

The memories are still vivid in my mind. The signts and sounds of people having fun. 70s tunes blasting from the Music Express, happy tunes from the carousel. Clake cakes and chowder and stepping into that dining hall for the first time and seeing hundreds of tables. The smell of the ocean, the huge saltwater pool. All memories that are now demolished to make room for luxury condos. :-(

Maybe someones way of saying some things shouldn't be vandalized.
