What once colorful, massively visited, noisy and full of youth, now old, quiet, forgoten and dry... sounds almost like a regular human life.

Building not ugly at all, maybe just what reminds you of... Motts has taken us to really nightmare places but surprinsingly with such beautiful compliments.

I loved the pictures. brought back so many memories when I was little. My family used to have family reunions there in the Chowder House. The rides were great. Thank you very much for the memories

I found this site quite by accident. I have always been fascinated with pictures of abandoned buildings, vehicles and such. I must say that this is the best site I have found and I really have enjoyed it. I especially like the Studebaker plant layout.

I'm in a really big pinch right now with work, so it might be a while until I can get to more photos... I'm contemplating starting on another set from Europe though.

Almost all the photos have true to life colors, except infrared shots and a few others that I've taken liberty to alter. My processing usually involves adjusting brightness and contrast.

Well, they ripped off Lady and the Tramp and some kind of fern to get the dog... as for the kid, no clue.

I live close too. I had a relative or two that stayed at Pennhurst.

I used to work there years ago.. i worked with 15 patients per ward.. when you started woring you had to count the patients and then check the door in the back of the ward. One night i was sitting and i then checked the door again. I found it was unlocked. i was the only one with the key for the back door, my boss and i had to go into tunnel to see if anyone was there. we didn't find anyone but we both think it was a spirit that had unlocked the door. all the patients were a sleep..

Mott... in your photo that's labeled "Good Luck" i noticed something suspicious. You blurred out some text, so as i flipped through a few more pictures... i got to this one, i was the same setup of text on the log book as in that other photo.

I blew the photo up in photoshop, and after some guessing of letters i realized that it said,

I found this interesting because when i searched for Massachusetts mental health center's i got nothing on Thompson Mental Hopsital. My mother used to work near 'Lemuel Shattuck Hospital' in Boston. She had a patient who ripped her eyes out while she was in seclusion...
