Some modern day prison concepts originated here,such as numbering inmates.In fact it was first called The Pennsylvania System.(as opposed to the "New York System" of its' day)

They had a death row here but I don't believe anybody was executed here.

As a radio host on the Saturday Reggae radio program here in Philadelphia would say : Massive!!

The interior walls are several feet thick.

The outer wall goes down into the ground almost as deep as it is tall.

Amazing how some jackasses have to deface property by "tagging". At least they don't lift their leg and pee all over to mark their territory.

If I ever saw this happening, they would be walking funny with paint cans shoved up their asses. I wouldn't use any lubricant either.

One idea offered was to use this bldg. as religeous cloistures....umm...............

I see the image as well. It seems to be shadows on the carve out.
