The security on the place is tight, to say the least. And given the amount of money being put into this place ($76 million, last I checked), I suspect the owners will not take it kindly if they catch you trespassing.

These days they would be welded. to "Prevent Injury"

I think they were installed by one of the preservation groups. Partly to showcase the building, partly to better guard against vandalism.

Actually, those windows on the first floor (the ones that increase in size) are where a bathroom is located. (Its a very pretty bathroom, too - the windows are trimmed with oak, and the entire room is pannelled with oak, too).

I'd actually be hoping to see something of Central Islip for quite a while - although it was well before my birth, my great-grandmother was diagnosed with schizophrenia and institutionalized here, sometime in the 1960s, and remained there until she died. The family tried as best they could to care for her, but eventually she attacked her husband - believing him to be someone or something else - and they had no choice but to send her here.

Its funny to see how many people on here hate clowns. I am also terrified of them... but oddly enought i dont mind Pennywise (the clown from IT) .... i think its just cuz i love Tim Curry and really cant be afraid of him... i dunno... Ronald McDonald scares the ever loving crap outta me though.

all I can picture is someone just sitting on the floor, in a corner, rocking back and forth while squeezing this thing... you really do wonder who that person was

We lived in Millbrook from 1966-1970,my husband taught music at Bennett College. Those were fun times,esp seeing Dr Timothy Leary on our front porch having lost his way and needing directions. We were told if any faculty member was "friendly" with TL, they'd be fired. Imagine how we felt each time TL would see us in the villaga and give a big hello and wave! Sorry to see the college go under but by that time we were having a good life living in LA,CA till 2005 when we retired to SoWestern part of VA.
