id imagine there was previously some structure that was build around/on the raised area... I work with individuals from state hospitals that would trip and kill themselves on surfaces like that... so thats my guess,. alex

This reminds me 10 fold of Utica State. Lots of the ward solariums and doctor offices were set up this way.. in similar cheerful colors.

I think it's just a hallway cata.. because it's a military hospital.. and it would need a heater because that room is fricken' spacious with tall ceilings and whatnot

In an old chemical factory in Utica there were very similar militia weaponry like this laying about.. torpedos and junk. No idea why they were stored there, though.

All those pegs on the wall were probably the faucets and soap dispensers at one time...

Yeah the entire door is covered with mesh... perhaps to keep violent patients from wandering and trying to get in... thats how it is where I work anyway..

I think I wrote this in a previous gallery... being an ex patient of a psychiatric ward.. the mesh is very depressing to look at and see when all you want to do is be at home..

Perhaps if I never had dabbled into psychotic drugs this room would be fine... but. Damn. If I had to be holed up in there the walls would be swimming like ocean waves. Wish I could enhance the photo to actually see the pattern...

People in this country are too sue-happy. C'omon people, how about taking responsibility and stop blaming big corporations just because their pockets are deep. My first house I bought, I had sided and they just covered up the asbestos shingles with insulation and then the siding. I lived there a long time and never had a health issue. Are you telling me that asbestos seeps out through a covering and runs for the lungs? I agree that the abandonment should be avoided but if it can't then yes, tear down and rebuild. If I had the means I would gladly pay to rehab some of these places. We don't need a Wal-Mart on EVERY corner for God's sake!!
