That 'trapdoor' by his left foot is how someone would go down behind the clock that you photographed, to reset it. But when it was time to put the clock ahead or back, we would sometimes get a new guy to go ask the shift superintendent for a safety harness and lanyard, telling him we would have to hang him down from the overhead crane hook to move the hour hand.

You're looking at the World's largest single shaft turbine generator in 1941. And it ran continuously throughout WW2.

It looks like a radiator to me, the vent cover can be seen on the floor in the background.

The projection room held the remnants of a carbon arc unit, but not much else. http://opacity.us/image1922_projector.htm

I like the idea of you not using the real name of this place. I worked at 'Eagle River' Generating Station from 1968 to 1985, when it was retired. Great photos. You've shown equipment and locations at the station that I haven't seen before on the internet. Be safe.

flushed...it seems you come back to galleries like I do quite often. I was captivated by your writings on this page in particular and would love to hear more about your story(ies). If you want, write to me (my user id is my email address). Although I have no experiences in health care I have become fascinated with the history of it and learned a great deal thanks to Mr. Motts and this web site. When I was a teenager I took care of an ailing parent, and my sister spent most of her working career at a residence taking care of handicapped adults but other than that I have no first hand experience. Thanks very much.
It almost looks like Hitler!
