Both my grandmother and great-grandmother worked in this center for 30 year each. My great-grandmother was beaten very badly by a patient causing her retirement. My grandmother retired in the mid-80's. She has wild stories to tell about this place!

Its like a dream...most fuzzy.

My mother was a patient there in the mid 1960's to the 1980's , was a truly horrible depressing place where there seemed to be no fresh air, thats what I recall most aside from all the locked doors, just that feeling of stale air and being confined . youd come out of there and take a big breath. my mother just got worse and worse there. I cant see how anyone could have gotten better in such a dark depressing place. your photo's are terrific.

Now that I look again, the radio was at the top next to the television, so that second door underneath was probably for record storage. I doubt it was equipped with Stereo as that didn't arrive until 59 or so.

At the far end it appears as though someone is sitting in a wheelchair with their head bowed...

im just waiting for someone to fly off the top of the building
