beautiful, scary, sad, age, etc this picture can say 1000 words.

After I read Project 17 by Laurie Stolarz, I couldn't help but look up what the hospital looked like, and if it was in fact real. As seen here it is. And since I wish to become a film make, I would like to make a film involving this place, and its story. Its sad and scary to think about what it was like to live in this place, but people should know.

These pictures are amazing. You really captured the sadness and destruction. We used to go in byberry at night all the time when I was younger. we walked through the tunnels in pitch darkness. If your flashlight went out you were screwed!

It was an amazing place. We were more interested in our findings rather than destroying things. We somehow came across a file room and there was a HUGE pile of patient files that we took home and read through. It was very interesting.

Anyway, love the photos. They are good memories to have considering the whole place is gone because they are building condos :) Who would want to live there with all those bad vibes?? NOT ME!

This place is a complete eyesore. I am from Millbrook and see this mess everyday, and the fact is, the village and several wonderful contractors and developers have amazing plans to do with the land this dump sits on, and pathetic environmentalists and other such oblivious uneducated individuals keep preventing anything from happening to this site. Its unfortunate.

if i had found this when i was there i would have pissed my pants. the elephant/tiger etc in the cafe were scary enough...

I was there yesterday (3/21/09). The windows to the left where most of the light comes from are all boarded up, so it's pretty much pitch black. The room through the door on the left has fake blood splattered on it and is covered in ceiling tiles and trash. The walls have a lot more graffiti, specifically the elephant has a swastika on it's forehead as well as a penis.

Hirsau was one of the most important monastaries in "Germany" during medeival times. This guy was its first abbot but due to political reasons he had to leave it and settle at this site here. He died at Michealskloster and later on his burial site became a place of pilgrimmage.

i was in the childrens ward (yorkwoods) from 1986-1988. then a ras tranferred to the girls unit where the pool was at across the street. the rooms u reffered as the whole were actually called quiet rooms.any questions about any of ur pics and who and what kind of degree for each ward of. depended on their agression. i remember every photo when this place looked new! u can contact me with any questions....expressway_i75@yahoo.com

Wow these pictures are amazing, really shows the history behind pilgrim state I always pass by there to go work early in the moring when its still dark outside, and i just get the shivver and cold down my back everytime

The 1942 Maj. Gen'l Wallace F. Ranolph - WYPJ was established as an artificial reef off Marathon, FL. on March 3, 1986. Her position is 24 deg 39.663 N and 80 deg 57.784 W. Would sure like some pics from her now. Presently working on USAMPS story for Library of Congress Oral History Project.
