My father (who worked in the hospital kitchens) was the chapel organist throughout the 1970s and 1980s. I wonder if he was the last to play it?

I used to attend this chapel as a child and teenager in the 1970s.

The altar (see later picture) was on the small platform at the far end, surrounded by a wooden communion rail, part of which can still be seen in the picture.

By tradition, patients sat to the left of the columns, staff's families and other members of the public sat on the right. Although the chapel was intended for staff and patients, local villagers in-the-know also attended, to save themselves the two-mile journey to the nearest Catholic church. You can see the bare wood areas of the floor where the pews were, with a wide surfaced aisle down the middle.

The two doors on the right led to the priest's vestry and the confessional.

Last thing on that sign was something about a flee market. You must've been there within a year or two before it was completely torn down, it wasn't very long before that when the sign was still complete.
Typical CT, between the yuppies whining about noise and the plague of ghettos, everything of any interest gets destroyed.
Theres still a dozen or two active drive-ins in CT alone, just have to know where to look.

this looks like the hell hole they kept my sister in at the age of 15 and was abused on a regular basis...by the people who should have been caring for her.

Can I just say how absolutely strange it is to hear someone throw out the name Wassfy Hanna? He was my psychiatrist from the time I was 12 until I was 18, and I'm 21 now. He told me used to work here and I'd always hoped to find some trace of him. That's just...wow.

How fun to get to see this place, with little surprises around each corner. Wish I'd been there :-).

Anyone else completely creeped out by the blackness under the stairs (coming from a person who cannot STAND to set foot in a dark basement, or one that has "open-backed" stair risers...(shudder..)? I know these aren't open, but still.....things can reach around......
