my mom worked here from the early 60's till 1980...i have been in most of the buildings that are show here and places that are not shown. a very interesting place.
2/6/17 A couple of years ago, I viewed some of your other pictures of the old Main building and the other buildings. pictures of the lab, treatment rooms, the tub room, etc.... could you please repost them? I would love to share them with friends and coworkers. I worked at NSH right after graduating from hs, 1982-1993 and would love to share your photos along with stories about the hospital. I haven't talked about it in awhile. I would really appreciate it!!! Love your work!!!
I have a bread box from the late 40's that is made of the same stamped aluminum as this machine. It is also the same faded gold /coppery color. This thing is shorter than a bread box but wider.
Grew up down the road on a neighboring farm, my father was actually a farm supervisor there when I was a kid and we had free run of the place . If you like that fireplace you would really like the old stone wardens house that has a fireplace in everytime... ghosts are running around free also
I worked at the place a long time ago. I was psychology student hoping to gain some insight into human beings by viewing the most wretched people. Anyway, one of our patients in the ward I worked in climbed that very water tower, pulled his pants down and masturbated while yelling "I want the whole world to see!"
I can't say I gained any psychological insight from this, but it's a pretty funny story.
saw an autopsy before i was in grade school there. jars filled with brains, hearts and other human organs . spent too much time listening to screams of anguish and pleas for help from the poor souls trapped behind its bars. it may look better but it was hell on earth for many who were cursed to live there. the architecture is enticing but the history is hell!
I went in and explored last summer there is security and police but I managed to get in there was a huge group of us and we were in the building behind the security post and we all tried to see if anything was there like a ghost or somthing and we all we're in a circle and turned off our lights and we asked if anyone was there and all of a sudden I heard what sounded like a brick slide and then fall behind me. Maybe it was just an old building but it gave me the heebie-jeebies after that it is a very interesting place and if your sneaky enough no one should see you and you should be able to explore no problem
I've wanted to visit this location many times, and have even gone so far as to drive around behind the buildings, along the side road, but I just haven't been able to get up enough courage to venture in, due to safety reasons. In addition, finding someone else to make that trek is near to impossible.
Thank you for sharing photos of these beautiful buildings; there is so many stories I've heard over the years, friends who have visited and photos I've taken of the front exterior.
