Why is there normally a crown on the casket?

I'm eleven, I know it sounds really soppy, but this isn't an asylum, there are people there and I don't care if thier dead, but thier not like old equipment abandoned in hospitals. It's just really sad and sick that thier just forgotton, nobody knows who they are. I bet all of you would dissagree with me, but I just feel it really sad and touching that thier just left there. People loved theese people once. And those people to are probably dead. I respect you Motts for not peeking at them.

Yep, I've visited Weston State Hospital before it became open for tours; I saw a security guard patrolling inside the building, but other than that I didn't see anything weird (or anywhere else).

I think you need to speak with a doctor who specializes in developmental disabilities.

i went there last night its creepy but you get the hang of it after a while and some crazy things do happen like see wierd things and hear mad shit i recomend people to go

I have a 15yr old disabled child that is down syndrome and autistic, he wakes up in the middle of the night and will bang his head on the walls all night long. We have purchaed medical helmets for him, but he takes them off. We tried using a soft hospital type hand restraint and he pulled on it all night until his wrist was black & blue, we even tried a top bunk bed and he jumped right out of it. we are afraid one day that he will completely split his head open, Do you have any suggestions? A hopital youth crib costs $4,000.00 and we don't have that kind of money by the way he still wears diapers and sometimes takes them off he will smear the feces all over his rugs. PLEASE HELP ME!!! I'M GOING NUTZ

I would like to know Motts, if you have seen anything paranormal on all your treks in these places. The most active places are even active in the daytime! We just did the overnight ghost hunt at Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum 2 weekends ago, and were not sure about if it would be "hollywood" or just nothing! We came out the next morning with a complete shakeup of our belief system... We saw and heard SO much we just can't explain away... Now, I'm in love with all these Kirkbride and other institutions of past.... Thanks for all your beautiful work and preserving our history!

I randomly came across this site while looking for haunted places in NY, haunted or not, the photos caught my interest. Even more so, the stories and comments left me wanting to know more about this Historical tragedy. I am presuming from the recent comments that is has not been torn down yet? I believe i read that restoration costs in 1991 would have exceeded $15 million? Does anyone have information on who owns the property and whats preventing a personal investor from the restoration? I am one of the fortunate Western New Yorkers that has natural gas under my land, and this would be a great investment property and a pleasure to restore.
