I remember when my parents worked there when I was about 7-8 years old then it became St Luke's home. But but this place was definitely freaky I remember running around there as a little kid. It should have became a historical site for upstate ny. But thanks to ray myer put a lot of people out of work and ruin it.

Motts, you haven't been back to "see yourself" ? You don't have to go all the way back there to see yourself....just look in a mirror. :-)
So very sorry, but I just HAD to say that!

I know this is a bit late for a response, but Colin, that's not a urinal (although I suppose some have been used as urinals) it's acutally a sink.
Ohhh dear...flushed - that really is quite ok with no light fixtures in this one - maybe I should check again...hahaha

Toot was referring to "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" by Billy Joel. This pic made me think of the Mock Tudor album by Richard Thompson. Fun gallery, thank you Motts.

Imagine waking up in your new bedroom, drawing the shade and seeing this first thing in the morning. Makes you want to go back to bed and hope it is all a bad dream.

Complete with gruesome 70's art in cheerful orange and yellow.

I can also remember wandering through many similar local malls. You are correct about the almost deliberate ugliness of the architecture, glad I did not see it as a kid. Now that is is falling in on itself it becomes sinister. Probably more so since it brings up memories from childhood.

I think it was titled A squared + B squared = C squared. But seriously folks! This is representative of public art in the later 60's and 70's
