Eye of the Beholder

My appreciation of American architecture dwindles as it moved throughout the decades, and it certainly reached some low points starting in the 1960s, wonderfully showcased by this particular mall. I had always thought it odd too, as the cars, appliances, and other manufactured goods of these decades were quite aesthetic, with their bold designs even overshadowing usability at times.

Despite the sheer horror of the architecture, I've come to believe that a rotting modern-era structure can have its own bizarre aura of intrigue and creepiness. There's just something unnerving about seeing such a place in ruins. Maybe we can recall spending time in similar places in the distant past, and much like seeing a home you once cherished become utterly destroyed, it strikes a chord of unnerving familiarity.
