My sister was a patient of Dr. Jervis. She was retarded due to PKU. Thanks to Dr. Jervis she stayed on the special diet and is still living at home-never institutionalized. She is now 57 years old. We used to travel from New Jersey every 6 weeks for a visit to him at the lab in Letchworth.My parents were responsible for having the law passed in N.J. for mandatory newbown testing for PKU.

I was just here today and my friend speculated this was a powerplant... it's pretty eerie back there.

I think I would have still looked around, but much more carefully. I'd be very quiet and listen for sounds of other occupants. Maybe you could have even smelled something. I suppose I like to live a little more dangerously.

All those patients must have had frostbite or hypothermia... or just the chills.

It would seem that the only difference in our treatment today of violent patients and the criminally insane is that our "restraints" are chemical in nature. I do not believe we have reached any greater level of treatment for these individuals. People who are violent and hurt others have to be managed in some manner. I can only pray that a more humane method is found.
