Went there yesterday and yes, there was an old man (50's) in a Silver Vauxhall patrolling the outer perimeter. Me and my wife hadn't even got out of the car before he pulled up beside us and told / asked us to leave. This was at the main enterence (the new hospital - next to cricket grounds). We left and drove all the way around and got as close as we could to the back enterence. (using google maps on our phones) we found the old road that used to run right up to the rear enterence gates (the gates on the bridge), but this road is now completely blocked of from the main road. We left the car and trecked across a large open field until we found a gap onto old overgrown road and soon found ourselves faced with the gates (anti climb paint coated), we stood around for a few moments whilst trying to figure out our next move and we noticed a motion detector screwed fairly high up on the truck of a huge oak tree, facing down at the outside of the gates. My wife started freaking out at this point and wanted to leave - I plan on going back later this week (alone - during the day). I just thought I would share my intel so far.

These buildings were truly built with care and individuality back then. I hate these cookie cutter pieces of carp they have nowadays. They could have saved these buildings BUT they have to get them when they first close. 20 years later is too late. I live in AL and I know of a beautiful old 1800's mental institute that is vandalized to the point of being totally unrecognizable.

I sure wish I could investigate this place! Would take days to cover the whole place (like security would allow that, lol). I can dream anyway. All hospitals are haunted, not just this one.

you are very welcome, it's hard for anyone to understand how we feel and what we went thru unless they were there and experienced hands on like us.....

Ohhh my - some hardworking secretaries endless years of work just there on the floor!! Human beings are very strange (me too) Some persons failed badly at their job, when place closed and was cleaned out. Shame on them!
Is it of no use to ANY-ONE now???? Documents usually are interesting after a while/some years. Would like to check it out.

Actually, I made a mistake. The regulations are stricter in nursing facilities regarding restraints than psychiatric hospitals. While geri chairs aren't used anymore in NF to restrain people they may still be used on older people in psychiatric hospitals. I don't know, because I haven't been hospitalized on the same unit with older people in years. I know they aren't used like they used to be in psychiatric hospitals when old people would be tied to the chair all day in the day room. That is illegal.

Sounds like you had a swell job. When I was in psych hospitals they always used the geri chairs to restrain geriatric patients. I believe that is illegal now. I work in nursing facilities and very, very rarely do I see someone restrained.
