The property was up for auction, or recently purchased at the time, so it wasn't necessarily left to ruin. I believe the Kirkbride building was minimally maintained by the town, state, or a local organization after the hospital closed. Ah, I made assumptions based on its location; thanks for the correction Mr.Peerless!
Transom Windows, LucieLou, and others, knew the name, - and really like them - wish there were more Transom Windows everywhere.
They are clever, efficient and smart. Light, ventilation and contact.
We grew up with them; the doors had no windows - but you could see if lights were on in room, and/or if transom, open hear the music/voices. It was great.
Back at Verden, again - a favorite. Love soft soft soft.........
Unbelievably blue is so precious and hopeful - beautiful

Thanks for another wonderful gallery, Motts! Keep up the great work, and stay safe!
Polar Bears!!?? YIKES!!! Motts, along with all your camera equipment and warm clothes, you'd better take a loaded rifle, as well, when you go on this trip. No joke!
@Ravenna. Thanks for sharing your 'expert' opinion with us about this.

@Colleen. Thank God that we have 'HIPAA' now!...Seriously!
