I've always been mesmerized and fascinated with places like these, especially the asylums rather insane or hospitals. I'm always researching these kind of places and I must say, they really do creep me out but that's what I love about them. Wish there was pics of what this place looked like while still in operation, before it closed. It would definitely make for a really good horror flix

My Sister worked there for many years. She told me the place was always spooky. The residents were moved to Lakeville Hospital which also was closed. Under "privatization", the patients were then distributed to nursing homes. Most were children.

DaveWilly, yes, that's where the winches were. They're gone now, but the control desk (much vandalised, alas) is still there.

Great set of one of my favourite haunts! You missed a few things, like the shower rooms (or are the floors completely collapsed in that wing now?) and the entire basement (the kitchen!) There are also some strange rooms underneath the orangerie (behind the tower house), accessible only from outside, not connected to the building.

I've been there a couple years before you, there was debris on the stairs but that lovely marble banister was mostly intact. It's just depressing, looks like some eejits went to work with a sledgehammer.

Nevermore, the tower houses a large water heater/boiler; there are several bath/shower rooms in that wing. The balcony is for stepping out and having a nice view ;-)
