I have stayed here over night, at the hospital. This is where I first incountered spirits. Yes I am one of those wierdos who believe in ghosts. If anyone else shares my feelings, and would like to learn more about them, you can email me, at

In an odd way, this makes me think of "Otis" from the Andy Griffith show. Just as the town drunk found his way back to the jail, so do the hard core dangerous addicts find their way back to this place-which just happens to be a former jail. Andy and Barney would have been proud!
Shades of Shawshank Redemption!
It is fantastic, but on the other hand, two other thoughts strike me: 1) the only thing holding this building together is the termites holding hands, and 2) it almost looks like the Munster's mansion on steroids!

wow i really like this. its almost haunting, like you can kind of picture it back when the asylum was open, with people wandering the halls...creepy. awesome.

If you take a second to look at this picture it's actually quite amusing. The light bulb has long since stopped working and now there is a hole in the roof with light pouring through it, as if to mock those who put the light fixture in there, or to take its place.

The fact that it's not a movie set makes it all the more surreal.

Must have been one awful place back in it's day. I can only imagine what infraction an inmate would have committed to earn a stay here when it was cold out.

I wouldn't doubt it... Edgewood was practically across the street.

These graduates probably worked at hospitals all over New York; I'd imagine Pilgrim State's nursing school was top notch, being that this was the largest psychiatric institution in the US.
