I hope to expand this site to include some more historical information of that sort, but the book "The Farm Colonies", by Leo Polaski is all about how the LI asylums began, operated, and closed, and has a very nice aerial shot of KPPC.

Yes, this wasn't a room for patients who would be physically aggressive, it was probably most likely used as a "time-out" room. It looks like the window had a cover so the person couldn't look out of it.

The tunnels were used to transport people across the firing range without getting struck by falling projectiles. These windows provided light and ventilation with the least chance of shrapnel entering the tunnels.

i remember once reading a book about a man that came down with polio. He had just gotten married, and became sick. He walked into the hospital and ended up in an iron lung and never left that hospital, it was a moving story. I wish i could remember the name of that book.

Isn't that an examination table someone dragged into the bathroom? Don't know if this is a first or second floor shot, but if it's first, mebbe it was to hop in and out the windows. If it's second floor, can't help. I am assuming it was dragged into the room after the place was shut down because it blocks the final stall.
No it's definitely not embalming fluid.Embalming fluid is more so truly a liquid in texture,it doesn't have the solid/liquid look of soap.
I have to say ladyhawke is fortunate to have gotten to see this place when it was still open, though in someways I think it truly appears more enchanted now than it probably did while it was still open.
