Was just on Ebay... someone is actually selling items they found Byberry - here is the link to the Auction eBay: HAUNTED: AUTHENTIC ARTICLES FROM BYBERRY STATE HOSPITAL (item 5603267121 end time Aug-08-05 21:15:00 PDT)
Great windows!
It does look like the chairs are lined up for movie watching.
Very interesting picture, I wonder why they had such high cielings with exposed pipes. Im sure due to size, it was hard to heat such a place to start off with.

As a former resident of Northeast Philadelphia, "Byberry" was a common site along the boulevard.
I attended school and graduated from college in the Philadelphia area. For the past 27 years, I have been lucky enough to be a stay at home Mom.
My family and I now live far away, and I was introduced to this site by one of my daughters.
I never anticipated individuals who might "hang out" at an abandoned psychiatric hospital (with beer in tow!) and be proud of it!
Kudos to Motts for the breathtaking photographs, of this and other places in the country.
I will accept being a *loser*, if that is your definition. My definition of a loser is one who hangs out at a place like Byberry, FOR YEARS!
Wonderful gallery Motts! Thanks again!
Yikes! Feels like being sucked into a wormhole.

I'm sure I'm completely off here, due to when this architectural style came out, it seemed as though the welfare of parents wasn't exactly at the top of the list, but I was just thinking how the Kirkbride style could have been specially developed for state hospitals to prevent the patients from being able to injure themselves on regular sharp-cornered walls. I guess it was just cause it reminded me of those special rounded corner chairs. Although I'm sure the architecture had nothing at all to do with that.
Well, everyone said everything about this photo already, let me add, stunning!! Looks brand new. This should become another wallpaper I'd say.
And here is another prime example of immensness!! Wow! I would love to hear a guitar soloing in this room.
