What the hell?...is this a lab room? or is it where the patients did activities? but then again the patients were mentally UNstable so i doubt they would use chemicals in their daily activities....

There are many reasons why family didn't claim ones belongings. Those belongings where discarded just like the people whom owned them. The state didn't care about them and still don't. The only voice those people have is what lies in there. It would be nice if someone doing a family tree could have that person's things. But who really cares enough to take the time to gather, place in order and list names on a website. Just names so that these people could be remebered or hell even found by a family. Photo's like this upset me. There sets history and the real truth about life in a mental hospital and we just leave it and forget just like everyone else. Thanks for listening.

WOW! The photo is amazing. At first site: Know Thyself and it leads into a dark closed off room. The room had a door at one time. Spooky! The wording is used in spritual readings and is an old saying. To "Know Thyself" is to have insight to ones mind therefore you can change it or change yourself to become a better person. To overcome thier illiness. The picture is just amazing. Makes me wonder.

Maybe the windows service 3 fuctions- light, security and some privacy. The windows are only big enough to see the top half of that person. The wall would provide some protection from breezes.
No soap dispensers because each inmate has his/her own bath items that they keep in thier rooms.

Maybe this was an emergency generator for the elevators in case of power failure it at least allowed people NOT to be trapped in them?

Turning on something like that would be something you might see on MythBusters when they blow stuff up....in a VERY controlled environment.

Don't need to have Southern Fried Motts around....we like your pix too much.

Yes, it's surprising there hasn't been a bad electrical fire that burned out of control in the places where the windows are all sealed....

.....it would be a terrible loss to the beauty of the exterior.

This room must've been SO BRIGHT when all the lights worked and were on!
