I agree with Eli. If you look at the note you notice that the three statements are not all left aligned as if someone wrote this all at once. which leaves me to believe that there was a conversation going on between one person and another using only a note and a glass window in a soundproof area.

There is no light coming from your side, does it really open both ways or are you pulling our leg? I think its bold of you to climb in if you did.

For all of you, those are not patient papers. The idiots running Oneida County put all the county records in this building for some un-godly reason. Of course kids came in and ruinned the records. My question is why would you put inportant county documents in an abandoned facility that isn't monitored by city of Utica officials, like the Old Main for instance? hmm

That's a sub-reflector, in the center of the antennas primary reflector there is a large "post" (called a feed horn) that houses the LNA's (Low Noise Amplifiers). You have it right in your description I just wanted to add the industry terms of the parts. Great photos and thanks for sharing them. I should have visited this place before I left Maryland...

A couple of you mentioned it already, but the first thing I thought of was the Twin Peaks red room. What was Laura's line...."Sometimes my arms bend back.."? WTF indeed! Cool picture.

These May have been a system to track who was in the mine. Similar systems exist in old coal mines in the US. Take the notifier with you when you are in the mine, and management can easily see who is in the mine in the event of a collapse.

mike's got it on this one. It's the remains of a chain conveyor. If ya go forward about four-five pics, you'll see a pair of them leading up to a balcony from either side.

Just like to point out that this is the origin of the phrase "going balls-out." When the machine was spinning at full speed, the balls would be flung as far out as the linkage would permit.

You mean you actually went inside that little padded room? What would you do if the door suddenly closed and locked shut. I'd freak!
