I see the light!
Just beautiful!
It is VERY real and VERY dangerous!
Hey Dave!
What exactly is "formstone" Is this what the two castles are made of?
Can you give some examples of what it would have been used for? Thanks!
You're right, it defiately was not six flags. : ) But that was what made it different from the rest. When the EF opened in 1955 it's purpose was to inspire children to read or want to learn how. It told its stories of fairy and rhyme through elaborate dioramas and amazing structures. Six Flags has its place, but so did/does the EF. It encouraged a child to use their imagination at an early age. Sometimes that gets lost in todays world with kids having alot of their entertainment served up on a platter full of video games and cable.
Angela~So sorry that you cried on your visit!
And yes, this IS a scary part!
It is actually through old photographs from people's visits to the EF though, that is allowing artists to recreate how these structures and its figures once looked like. It was my picture of Papa Bear from 1967, that they used to repaint Papa bear. That is why photographs then AND now is the last chance the EF has to come back to life for a new generation! Please feel free to get in contact with the farm or share your photos on

In the end , photographs and video is what will save this place from becoming extinct!
It doesn't have to die here and now. : )
Mt. Vesuvius is what looks like a bridge in the background and which actually held a 65 foot slide.
The boat known as Little Toot would ride people around and through that tunnel in the mountain.
Willie was located at a pond in the EF. Willie the whale would laugh. A light would go on and behind the mesh screen in his mouth you could see the fisherman Jonah sitting on a raft.
Jonah has long since disappeared whereabouts unknown like all the other EF figures! : (
"And so...
Because there is magic in this mist, all of the original Enchanted Forest still lives on. But
it takes forever and a day for Mac and Tosh to visit each attraction in this forest of enchantment.
For they are forever politely bickering over why the other should enter each attraction first.
Always coming to the conclusion that yes, going in together is always best..."
Oh Wow! I love the ending to THIS story...
This story I could live with! : )
Angel~ Are you Mac and I'm Tosh? Or vice versa? : )
e_jamesiii@yahoo.com~ I love the idea of the knight and his bride...
References were made earlier to John Cleese.
With your post , I'm now seeing, I think it was the wedding festivites, in Monty Python's Holy Grail.
("But father..I don't want to get married...I want to singggggg!" "STOP THE MUSIC! STOP THE MUSIC! They'll be NO SINGING HERE!!!" ) ~ : )
P.S. Angel~ I love your spirit!
We need more people like you out here in this world! I can see your spirit shining all the way here in Maine! : )
LOL!...Angel, you are right. We are sounding more and more like Mac and Tosh those very overly polite gophers from Looney Toons.
But I do want to thank everyone that has posted here. I'm glad it helped alot of us.
Motts has truely shown how a one picture can effect so many...
When seeing pictures like Mott's, and others of the Enchanted Forest, I can't get that Simon and Garfunkel song, "Bookends." out of my head.
So, I'll let them say what I feel...
"Time it was, and what a time it was,
it was a time of innocence,
a time of confidences.
Long ago, it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories,
they're all that's left you." ~ S & G
Take care everyone! : )
Angel~
You have done more for me tonight than you will ever know.
Sometimes a person says something to you when you need it the most. And for me...that was tonight.
And when it comes from a stranger it makes you believe in magic alittle more.
And you said it beautifully.
Thank you, because of your words I can feel my mother's memory alittle bit closer to me tonight, because you understand completely, and took the time to say so.
And thank you to Motts for taking such beautiful pictures.
It is quite a gift to be able to take a picture and have it suddenly remind a person of a cherished memory.
It breaks my heart to think that there will never be another little child and parent climbing these steps ever again.
Never again will this stairway hear laughter.
I wish this castle could be saved.
I guess some things don't live happily ever after, but pictures like this help keep those memories alive. Thank you so much!
Thank you, AngelWolf(sans 13), for your very kind words...even closed this place will always stir up emotions in the hearts of those who went there, those who never went there and look longingly over or through the fence, or those who risked sneaking in.
Proving once again, that open or closed this forest STILL has the magic of touching us all with it's enchanted spell that was first cast 50 years ago...
These items have been saved and are now at Clark's Elioak Farm.
Only time will tell what can be done to try to bring them back to life again...but I am thankful that they are in caring hands.
