The politically correct term is Long Term Care Facility for the Mentally Ill and/or Developmentally Disabled. The abbreviations are ICF-MR, SNF, IMD, DD, CBRF, RCAC among others.

Where I work, we have small wire embedded in glass, no mesh on doors or windows. The staff wear street clothes and we only just installed bars in the stairwells after someone jumped from an upper floor. We have flat screen TV's in some of the lounges and comfy-not plastic- furniture. The clients go on outings...shopping, fishing, boating, camping and more. We are set up for their safety and comfort. Not all facilities are, but they have come a long way since "Hydro-Therapy" in ice water...

We used to have a pedophile at our long term care facility for the mentally ill that used to collect pictures like this.

The architecture...both inside and out...is amazing in this place. The arches and beautiful floors...Just amazing

Maybe the toilets are on the other side of the wall from the sinks? Or maybe the soap dispensers are on the other side?

Is that whole door covered in mesh? Why not just cover the windows? Are the transoms covered with mesh also?

Is the floor brick? What was in all the other rooms?

I think it looks like the outside of a door. We once had a very old farm house. Only one room had a light switch the rest had pull chians and it was the only room with a lock on it, and it locked from the outside. Used to be my bedroom, but it was a little creepy...
