Great architecture - very unusual use of space!

The acoustics in those old buildings was so bad that you would pay anyone to bring in any old ugly rug just to dampen the deafening noise.

The whole area is a deadly fire trap - however, it is a decidedly beautiful one at that.

Most of the psych facilities I've worked at over the years don't look much different than smaller college campuses.

So you won't fall all the way down if you stumble, slip, or are pushed. Or jump.

Psych hospitals aren't supposed to have exposed pipes or any metal object that can potentially support weight - people use them to strangle themselves (with sheets, towels, shirts, etc.) - even from as low a height as this. Also occasionally people used to trip and crash into them as well. Or so they said - I think someone pushed someone else, but no one ever 'fessed up.
