Most hospitals aren't allowed to use those slide and bolt locks on seclusion rooms and time out rooms anymore.

LucieLou,

This is a common activity that is used in therapeutic encounters. You are supposed to pick something about the person that you like and want to see more of, and then share it with the person (and any others they want to see it). This is as opposed to telling people what it is you don't like about them and want to see less of, which is what they are used to hearing all the time.

When I used to work at a state hospital in Virginia, I went to Staunton several times. I was able to see the DeJarnette Center and the old main hospital, which I believe is being (or has been) made into apartments, similar to Danvers. It is quite a huge place, but DeJarnette was such a small building in comparison, and somewhat off to itself, I believe. At Central Virginia Training Center (CVTC) in Lynchburg (VA) they have a building on campus called the DeJarnette Building, named after the same man. The original court case involved the young woman (Carrie Buck) who lived at CVTC.
