For whatever reason this is in Russian not German. The top line says Breathing. The first half of the 2nd line is indecipherable. The last half of the 2nd line says benefits. First half of the 3rd line is indeciperable but the last word on the 3rd line is probably department.

The red house directly next to the sign is also an abandonment now (or at least it was when I was last in that part of RI last summer). It too was owned by the park.

And this jewel of a photo set has just been sitting in your archives for 3 years waiting to be edited and posted....

If you don't mind, whats the worst thing you've seen working in corrections?

Have you ever encountered an inmate that convinced you he truly was innocent of a bad crime for which they had been accused/incarcerated.

Was there ever a successful escape at York St Jail? How'd they do it? Did they stay free?

and finally, I have a small collection of jailhouse keys from SingSing and Greenhaven (as well as other places) from before the locking systems became automated. If I posted pictures of them in the main forum would you be able to identify whether they were keys for cells vs. keys for other purposes??

Motts - was the wooden rollercoaster still intact at Lincoln Park??

That particular ride you could actually feel the rollercoaster structure shift back in forth at the highest points in the ride on a windy day.

Further, it was a ride that claimed several lives. The first being a ride mechanic who managed to get himself hit by a car.

If the headstones were in evenly spaced rows was there a space where 666 would have been? Perhaps the hospital staff avoided that marker number themselves.

Great to see a new gallery up.

The drawing was there when the park was open. I've never heard of any sacrificed cats. I doubt the truthfulness of this post claiming cats were sacrificed. At best, its neighborhood urban myth.

Bob - there are several other galleries on Opacity that have photos of various projection equipment. Because there is so much here to look at I can't recall all of them.

However, I do recall one of the Byberry galleries has one such example.

This is in response to Kevin's request for a list of Musik Express (yes it was spelled with a K) music.

Understand that even today RI has a big 80s rock oreintation. Music Express music changed each year but typical music included: (and much of this played into the 90s).

1. Def Leppard - particularly Pour Some Sugar on Me.

2. Great White's - The Once Bitten album. For those of you from outside RI this is the band that was playing when the Station House Nightclub burned to ground in 2003 when a pyrotechnic show went bad (understatement) and 100 people burned to death. I didn't lose anybody but I was making calls that night to find out.

3. Damn Yankees

4. Rick Astley - go figure. I don't know why this made it either.

5. Steppanwolf - Born to Be Wild.

6. Van Halen - Pre-Hagar.

7. Aerosmith.

8. Queensryche - I Don't Believe In Love

9. Skid Row

10. Scorpions - Savage Amusement

11. Metallica

12. Iron Maiden

13 . Bad Company - the album with Shooting Star and Rock'N Roll Fantasy.

14. Jody Watley

15. Kim Wilde

16. Samantha Fox

17. Expose

18. Cover Girls

19. Taylor Dane (who did actually perform there)

20. Guns N Roses - Appetite for Destruction

21. Motley Crue

22. AC/DC

23. Billy Idol - Rebel Yell

24. Billy Idol - the follow up album that had White Wedding.

25. Joan Jett and The Blackhearts - The album with I Love Rock N Roll

26. Lita Ford

27. Bon Jovi

28. Ratt - Out of the cellar

29. Warrant - The Album Cherry Pie

30. Journey

31. Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit

32. Anthrax

33. Snap - The Power

34. Black Sabbath

35. Ozzy Ozborne - The Ultimate Sin

36. Boston

37. Cinderella

38. Dokken

39. Heart

40. White Snake

41. Bryan Adams - The album with Summer of 69.

42. Europe - The Final Countdown (double ugh!)

43. U2 - The Unforgettable Fire

44. Dire Straits - Money for Nothing.

45. Huey Lewis and The News

46. Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers.

...hope you're not disappointed. I'm not defending all this music mind you...I'm just reporting on what was there. Some was good, some was bad. Some was very very bad. The above list is by no means complete.

Additionally, when I name only one song. I don't mean they bought the single. It just means I dont know the album name.

Another list of interest would be all the bands that actually played live there. They did get some big names and there were concerts almost every weekend from about June to labor day. Everything from reasonably unknown bands like Danger Danger, to well known cover bands like The Machine to big time names like Gloria Estefan and Steppanwolf. The concerts were introduced in the 80s and stayed until the park closed.

Ps. I saw on another site that someone was trying to confirm if the Corkscrew rollercoaster was first shown at the worlds fair. It was not.

However, the arch at Gate 1 (the gate next to where the Apollo 11 ride was situated (and earlier the Whip)) was at one of the New York World's fair. Either 1939 or 1964. Not sure which...but I'm leaning towards 1939.

...Hmmm...I don't mind responding to a set of typed questions. I did send an email to the admin@rockypointmovie.com email address and offer photos of the park. In addition to regular park scenes I have pictures taken from the top of the Freefall.

PM me if you like on Opacity. Alternatively, you can look up my email address at rockypointmovie.com website email box (i.e. look up the email I sent to admin).

Hey other Lynne,

This ride was reinstalled elsewhere, albeit with the replacement animals. Not the original wooden horses. If you're interested I can find out specifically where. I believe it was either at Misquamicut beach or a, believe it or not, a Dairy Queen.
