The Long Island Railroad used to reseve 100 car unit Coal trains from Conrail and Norfolk Southern Railroads which came up from West Verginia. This hospital used to reseve between 1-2 trains a month before it shut down. Each railroad car contained 90 tons of coal.

Some Coal burning steam plants have large cooling towers. These plants are most often mistaken as nuclear plants. The towers take in cool air from large openings below them pushing the hot air up as it rises it condenses and makeing the water content in the steam run back to ground level where it is collected and reused. This system is slowley being intruduced in Ukraine and outer Eastern European countys that are in the process converting out dated Soviet era Nuclear Power Plants over to coal buring power plants..

Some places abandoned or not have to keep lights on at key locations for Fire code reasons. There are a few abandoned factorys in my home town that the city requires out side lights on the grounds near entrence ways and Fire Exit lights with in the building to be keeped on as well as lights leading to any place where there are electrical panels and water shut off valaves connecting to the water mains with in the building.
