As to Lynne's comment, I think the term 'melodramatic' is hardly appropriate in describing the likes of the insane serial killers that likely occupied some of these rooms.

How can it be a davit? This shot was obviously taken on either the bow or the stern of the ship. In maritime history, lifeboats were never used on bows, and were never put on the stern of a ship since the propellers came into use.
