Dammit, all I see is a little dial face.
No, the darker stuff on the chair must be the original cover detiorating.

My mom used to have chairs with the same covers from the 70's. They were plastic made to look like i guess leather but with a plastic feel to them. They were horrible in the summertime. I remember them falling apart in the same fashion.

But for some reason, when i see this pic, the scene "Beauty School Dropout" and the song come into my head!!
