I hope i dont seem crazy but this photograph is awfully magical to me....the way it was shot looks like a door leading into an enhnted forest crossed with an old building...the moss and the water is really something else. i feel enchanted.

The dial case has Phillips head screws which were invented in the 30s but came into common use after WWII.

The rest of the device has slotted-head screws. It's possible that the screws for the dial case were replaced.

Hard to tell just how old this thing is. I know it's old and there are people who would love to have this. The corrosion around the screws suggests that the dial has been removed and replaced several times. this creates wear of the protective paint around the screws, exposes the bare metal to the elements -- thus the rust around the screws. This, in my opinion, adds to the personality of the piece.

The voltage is DC and the voltmeter reads up to 300. I have no idea what this was for.

Wow. Thats quite a picture. We didn't have bars on the window in the psychiatric hospital I was in. Actually we didn't have a window in our rooms. Only windows were in the dayroom and was made of double thick plexiglas.

Hmmm. It doesn't look like it but I would hope there was some padding to keep the patients from hurting themselves.

Amazing shot. I can only imagine severly distressed patients clinging to the mesh doors as staff walk past checking on them.

not a lobotomy operating room at all; this building was constructed well after lobotomy had fallen out of practice. very few lobotomies were performed at norwich, and those that were got performed in a building on the opposite side of the campus.
