That crutch is awfully near where it looks like the floor is giving way -

I could be wrong but that looks like an old "gomco" suction machine, the glass collection jar would sit in the bottom shelf. gomco suction is for ng (naso-gastric) tube suction to keep the stomach empty after some surgeries., to the digestive system.
