IF YOU COULD LET ME HAVE just ONE ONE ONE ONE !!!!!!! i would fix it up
Interestingly and ironically, the passenger steamer Eastland suffered a fate similar to these boats. (poor top-heavy construction and being over capacity caused the rollover at the dock in Chicago)
Night: my claustrophobic panic would result from being in a submarine unable to surface.
Twug, in the case of drowning, I would hope to black out quick and not spend minutes prior fighting for air...or does that only happen from suffrocation due to something held over someone's face?
Wave pools? Yeah, I momentarily bumped my head on an inner tube trying to come back up at the Denver water park.
Lynne n Silkster- Lemme guess: you wouldn't watch Poseidon if we paid ya. BTW, that original screenplay/novel was based on the author's impression of how badly the original Queen Mary rolled in heavy seas.
Speaking of Mary Murray, the Admiral from St Louis was built in the 1930s-40s and had a similar "futuristic" rounded look. This part of the site also reminds me of a steamer unearthed near the Mississippi in MO as the water flow pattern changed.
Perhaps she was fitted for some ice breaking? Just from an engineering standpoint, the ribbed surface would keep sharp edges from contacting the main hull. Just a thought.
Despite freaking out over half of these pictures, I actually love the water and boating (just not rusty old boats *shudder*) so I really enjoyed this gallery. I still can't believe you BOARDED the ships though! DAMN!
Beautiful shots, thanks again Motts!
Silkster you are cracking me up....mainly because I am feeling they same way you did when you saw these photos. Damn things scaring the crap out of me...yet they are so cool!
