I am in 100% agreement. I've already been cussed out by graffiti "artists" for my intolerant views of their work. Jmom, I hope you realize that the comment above yours was a sarcastic one, and if I could vocalize it, it would drip with venom!
I just wanted to note that grafitti that is painted without regard on something that belongs to someone else OR to everyone... is just ugly. Not because the painter has no talent- but because the painter has no respect.
I was always scared of everything as a child. I remember going to the Enchanted Forest as a kid when we lived in Baltimore. I'm sure it contributed to my fears. Pathetic I know. I also remember taking my daughter there in and taking a ride on a boat. They had some kind of mechanical alligator that would come out of the water. The water was so low I could see the pully mechanism. I really thought they would have torn this place down and built something on it by now. Very lovely photos though.
I am absolutely positive, however, that you don't mean this particular work of vandalism, as this is fairly crappy work. No, let me rephrase that - this is "piss poor," to quote my mother. :-)
Garth my good Im submittion aquatiance my smaller brother is not reading this now but i would prefer if you dont use the word F!&% in the futer oh and PS This pic is wet your pants creepy.
I am the artist who breathed new life into The Giant on the Beanstalk! It took pics from times ago to assist me in proper fiberglass repair and retoration to bring the big guy back to life along with the leaves!I've also repaired Jack(of Jack and Jill)among a few others, and me and Monica are presently restoring the Rainbow Bridge from pics of years ago, from those who so unselfishly shared their pics with us!We are asking all of you to have a piece of recontruction history by providing us with whatever pics you can to aid us in speeding up the process of restoring the EF pieces! They are, after all, yours, and ours!
Thanks!
I've seen certainly hundreds, if not thousands, of photos of the
Enchanted Forest, and taken a few myself... these are the most evocative. Thanks, and congratulations.
Angela~So sorry that you cried on your visit!
And yes, this IS a scary part!
It is actually through old photographs from people's visits to the EF though, that is allowing artists to recreate how these structures and its figures once looked like. It was my picture of Papa Bear from 1967, that they used to repaint Papa bear. That is why photographs then AND now is the last chance the EF has to come back to life for a new generation! Please feel free to get in contact with the farm or share your photos on http://www.enchantedforestmd.org/index.php
In the end , photographs and video is what will save this place from becoming extinct!
It doesn't have to die here and now. : )
I remember going here when I was a kid and this was the part that scared me the most. I remember is SO vividly and this picture just brought me back. You are so right about how morbid it was to kids. I remember crying being plopped down in this cage thing. I have tons of pictures of me at this place while I was a little kid. In most of them I'm crying. haha. That place creeps me out still.
Mt. Vesuvius is what looks like a bridge in the background and which actually held a 65 foot slide.
The boat known as Little Toot would ride people around and through that tunnel in the mountain.
Willie was located at a pond in the EF. Willie the whale would laugh. A light would go on and behind the mesh screen in his mouth you could see the fisherman Jonah sitting on a raft.
Jonah has long since disappeared whereabouts unknown like all the other EF figures! : (
