The link listed by Danny Being Manny is my favorite also. I made the same mistake thinking it was two heads when in fact it is only one man's head. It was split down the back leaving only the front face attatched and then laid out to give the look of two kissing. Makes me love it more.

The term "State School" was usually a hospital and residence for people with mental and/or physical disabilities, usually younger people but I believe the age range varies greatly. The term has since been antiquated along with "State Hospital" etc; they are usually called developmental centers nowadays.
