My friend named her fish "STD".....soon to die. Once my cousin left fish in an old kiddy pool and they lived for a couple months in there, no food (or so he said). Anyways, looks like a fun pool.
@Yen4Daze-These DO look like the "Good old days"! Resorts back then were simple but very appealing and the community felt like you were visiting family. The Pines truly did look like a great place in its day-I wish I had gone there...
sorry for the confusion I was just responding to Patty when you mentioned Stevie and then in the same breath I mentioned that other not-so-nice guy, He had dark hair and a dark side (brrrr)
I worked at Rocking Horse Ranch earlier too prior to the big fire. Does anyone remember that?
My Cousin, The Comedian "London Lee" played all the hotels of "The Borscht Bell" was constantly on Ed Sullivan, but never played "The Ranch", now plays to The Elder Cockers at Boca Condos.
My Father told me the story of when the FBI thought Joe Bonnano was hiding out at Sunnycroft and raided the Ranch to find no Joe. Mike I remember that middle patio like area in the middle of your house, it had a glass cieling. The House was divided between the Schneiders and Ungers, when your Mom sold out. The Ungers were on the right hand side as you entered the house. Great House.
Sylvia Rocked, a fantastic Owner and Hostess. Very Glamorous Woman. The Summertime like right now was a blast at Sunnycroft, even during the week, there were guests rather than at certain periods of the year when the weeknights were a ghost town.
I never recall Annette cooking one meal when we went to that local school and came home to the ranch. Must of been "Frenchie" who cooked?
I don't even think those yahoos at that school knew what JEWS were, I told them we had no horns coming out of our heads, but we did breathe fire. Did they even have a football team or was it really a coed softball slow pitch team?
Remember the long back stairs behind the Main House to get to the dining room?
Mike and Morty use to run great ads in the Travel Section of the Sunday NYT for the Ranch. Rocking horse and Crazy Horse would run ads too, but none were even close to having the "BIG BANG" the Ranch had.
Weren't there marshmallow roasts outside and bonfires, or am I fantasizing?
I was a member of the SMITH family thta worked at the PINES. A total of 5 of us worked there, including my MoM for a while. Anyone ever hear what became of Hank? By the way.., THANK YOU to the Schwieb & Ehrlich Families!!! I"ll never forget the Good Old Day's!!!
I worked the Switchboard at the Concord in 1976 and in the dining room at the Pines in 1978. Does any one remember Pop-Ins? It was a great place for breakfast in South Fallsburgh. How about Oretsky's in Fallsburg? Does anyone know the whereabouts of a waiter named Luis Mejias (Puerto Rico) who worked the Pines about the same time.
As a high school graduation gift in 1967, my parents let me go along with my friend's family to Sunnycroft for a week. I was a very wild time for a naive 16 year old from Queens & I just LOVED it! I recognize alot of the old names mentioned here in this blog & I bet I have a few pictures I'll have to dig out. Years later, Annette & I spent quite a bit of time together...She was pregnant with Jamie, I was pregnant with Megan & Lorraine Romeo was pregnant with Renee - we ate our way through the Orange County Fair that year. Annette - I'd love to re-connect...find me @ dbcranch.com.....
I worked at the Pines in the late 60's and early 70's. It was absolutly wonderful back then. Life was slower, care free. And the girtls were all beautiful when we wailked on the golf course at night.
I remember on evening in particular. It was the night of the last draft for Military service. We were sitting in front of the Television on the second level , along side of the steps. So many of my friends and I were waiting for the draft call to begin.
The roll call begain on the first date, my friend Jerry stood up and said " Well, I don't have to put up with the suspense, I'm gonna join the National Guard" I was 287. I was safe.
Does anybody remember Lynda Carter, who later became Wonder Woman was singing in the lounge. The group named " Speedy Garfin & Garfin's Gathering". Later that summer she won the Miss America Title,
